About the Event
Enjoy a high-quality virtual visit back in time to Ancient Rome. Staying safe and staying home, you will enjoy a decade's worth of insights gleaned from leading pilgrims and patrons through the beauitful & compelling drama of sacred beauty and ancient history. It is also a perfect opportunity to get some real *insider* information with a small group of online friends.
The theme of this virtual visit will focus on the Palatine Hill, or the site of Ancient Roman origins, which became the home of the palaces of the emperors.Â
Specfically, we will investigate how important ancestry and dominance were to the Ancient Romans. How did Ancient Rome begin? What are the various eras of Ancient Rome? Â How did emperors, then, end up living on top of the Palatine Hill, and how did they use important symbols to epitomize Roman dominance & their own rule?
To go along with our visit to Rome's ruins, we will enjoy a special high-end tasting of olive oil. Â The Palatine Hill is home to many beautiful & indigenous plants, from acanthus leaves to umbrella pines. Â In the Middle Ages, some of its slopes became olive groves tended by local monasteries...trees which you can still see today. Â Since we will be focusing on *icons* of origin & rule, why not spend time focusing on one of the most important iconic symbols used throughout Western culutre: the olive tree & olive branch. Â And why not, then, taste the best olive oils that these trees and branches produce?
All the virtual walks will take place online, of course.  To participate you will need a computer with a good (fast) internet connection, and Zoom downloaded onto your computer or device. We recommend  that you have WhatsApp installed and working, but this is not necessary.Â
Once you register, all the log-in details, instructions, and directions will be sent to you via email.
As a courtesy, if you plan to no longer participate in the virtual tour, we ask you to please provide us with a cancellation notice at least 4 hours before the event. We cannot guarantee refunds for cancellations made with less than 4 hours' notice, though we will endeavor to do our best !Â
