About the Event
Enjoy a high-quality virtual visit back in time to Ancient Rome. Staying safe and staying home, you will enjoy a decade's worth of insights gleaned from leading pilgrims and patrons through the beauitful & compelling drama of sacred beauty and ancient history. It is also a perfect opportunity to get some real *insider* information with a small group of online friends.
The theme of this virtual visit will focus on the famous Colosseum, known in antiquity as the Flavian Ampitheatre. Or just: THE AMPITHEATRE. Entertainment + Propaganda + Forming Roman Identity, all on a scale that astonished ancient Romans...and continues to astonish us today.
Specfically, we will investigate how the Romans were people whlo became obsessed with two things: engineering and winning. It was how they came to engineer an empire. This fascination with victory lives on with us today: from winning elections to winning a sporting match, we follow in the footsteps of the Ancient Romans, and continued to wonder and awe at this Temple to "All I do is Win, Win, Win No Matter What" (with thanks to T-Pain).
To go along with our visit to the Colosseum, we will enjoy a short cooking lesson to begin the visit. Learn how to cook REAL Roman food with REAL Romans, before we dive into a monument that epitomizes REAL Rome. Like the ancients who ate food while they watched games, join us for Dinner & a Show!
This is not a boring Zoom; this is a highly-interactive and highly-produced virtual cultural experience.
All the virtual walks will take place online, of course. To participate you will need a computer with a good (fast) internet connection, and Zoom downloaded onto your computer or device. We recommend that you have WhatsApp installed and working, but this is not necessary.
Once you register, all the log-in details, instructions, and directions will be sent to you via email.
As a courtesy, if you plan to no longer participate in the virtual tour, we ask you to please provide us with a cancellation notice at least 4 hours before the event. We cannot guarantee refunds for cancellations made with less than 4 hours' notice, though we will endeavor to do our best !
